Walk and Talk Therapy, also known as Outdoor Therapy or Nature Therapy, is a form of psychotherapy where sessions take place outdoors while walking. This therapeutic approach combines traditional talk therapy with the benefits of physical activity and being in a natural environment
Offered in-person in Brant County
Before every Walk and Talk/Nature Therapy Session, you will have the chance to virtually meet with your therapist. While Walk and Talk Therapy has these potential benefits, it may not be suitable for everyone or all therapeutic issues. Together, you and your therapist will discuss counselling goals, the nature of your presenting concern, medical and health history and any mobility concerns.
Most commonly, Nature Therapy is practiced through “Walk and Talk”. However, Nature Therapy can take on many forms: rock throwing, canoeing, hiking, sitting on the grass, forest bathing and sitting on a bench. We will make sure to chat about movement and accessibility before we head outside together.
"There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing" - Alfred Wainwright
However, we want to ensure that your safety is prioritized. We are aware that uncontrollable weather (ice storms, snow storms, thunderstorms etc.) can be unpredictable, so a plan will be made if the weather is not conducive to a session outdoors. For example, to ensure continuity, a virtual session incorporating nature, could be arranged.
Unfortunately, confidentiality is harder to maintain when in a public space, but every effort will be taken to ensure privacy throughout the session.
At this time, Nature Therapy takes place in various green spaces around the Ayr and Paris, Ontario.
Peaks and Pines acknowledge that we live, work, and play on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishnaabe, Haudenosaunee and Eeyou Istchee people.
Today, this area remains home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island, As settlers, it is crucial that we acknowledge the contributions and historic significance of Indigenous peoples and actively commit to making the promise and challenge of Truth and Reconciliation a reality in our communities. This includes striving for justice for murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls across our country
